I think the celloid ethanol has newer technology and thus not the older ethanol technology that was taxpayer scam IMHO. According to RMI.org there is a 10/1 conversation ratio - in put 1 unit and output 10. Of course the sun/soil and time does most of the work. I'm not sure if soil depletion is accounted for in that ratio.
Also - as you mention, there's coal + additional energy from tar sands, nuclear, etc -- knock a few points off the growth in oil usage and we would all be better off. Too bad my
"conservative" senator (Ted Kennedy) doesn't want the windfarm here on the MA coast.
