UPDATE: I guess the TWU hasn't read the Cluetrain Manifesto, after getting 756 comments from their fellow New Yorkers, the transit union turned off comments and they are now completely inaccessible.
UPDATE2: Not only did they turn off comments, but they removed the post in question that generated all the comments and deleted all of the comments in the other posts as well. This is a stunning example of bad form on the TWU's part which brings to mind that old say "if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen," or the more practical saying that the late President Harry Truman used as a standard, "don't take on a job if you are unwilling to face its pressures."
UPDATE3: Sweet, here's an archive of the comments before the TWU removed them.
NYC transit strike today, and as the stream of "working from home" emails in my inbox would suggest, New Yorkers aren't up to hoofing it in 36 degree weather (the high for the day). The TWU put up a blog but didn't consider turning off comments, which I would really encourage you to read because it's realtime polling in action. Judging by the 743 comments, of which I only browsed 50 or so, they are running 9:1 against the union (one of my favorite comments is below).
BTW, the commenter is incorrect in assuming that a transit worker makes as much as a NYC police officer, they make more. The average salary of a transit worker is $62k a year, while NYC police officer pay scales tops out at $54k a year (starting salary is $25k).

"You guys really have a lot of balls. All you do is drive around in circles. Your job isn't hard at all. You get paid as much as cops and firemen, while much more as teachers."

I am stuck at LGA for a meeting in the morning...I had hoped to get to the city for dinner - love it this time of year, but am told it is taking 2-3 hours in and out...not sure why ...I guess more people having to drive in in the absence of mass transit...the union is certainly making its point!

I hope they all get fire!!!
I can't believe how selfish this people are. They are many people in the city of New York earning way less than the MTA workers and they still manage to live well. How dare this people go on strike at this time of the year, leaving New Yorkers stranded with no way of transportation. I really hope that they get what they deserve. I hope the Judge imposes the highest penalties possible to the TWU so they could too suffer a little...
