Newspaper Guild wants to acquire the Merc

The Newspaper Guild-Communications Workers of America thinks they can run 8 of Knight Ridder's newspapers better than KR? Interesting thesis that an employee takeover will result a "whole new dynamic" that will "enhance the value" of the newspapers in question... begs the question of what have they been doing up until now?

"Leaders of The Newspaper Guild-Communication Workers
of America are seeking investors to purchase the eight Knight Ridder
daily newspapers that are represented by the guild, they announced
Thursday. Guild President Linda Foley told E&P the effort was aimed
at allowing the guild shops under Knight Ridder control to be purchased
by companies more likely to avoid severe cost-cutting that has plagued
the industry."

Hopefully the leaders behind this effort will download this paper and avoid the mistakes that United Airlines employee owners made.
