Mozilla development troubles

this is why I'm not too quick to jump on the "open source is going to save the world" bandwagon. To be clear, I DO look at a range of open source investments, but the fact that they are open source is secondary to whatever problem they are solving and their business model for monetizing the effort.

Anyone who has worked in formal software development organizations knows that the bulk of the problems you face are not technical in nature, they are problems of the human condition. Attracting qualified people, achieving above average productivity, and meeting project schedule expectations are not solved by the pixie dust of open source alone... they are solved through competent management of the project and appropriate compensation/reward for the team (please note that money alone is not always motivating for good developers).
