format change update

It's been a couple of weeks since I went with the new format, and I have heard positive and negative comments from a lot of people. Thanks for the feedback in case I haven't already said so.

I'm sticking with this format because it enables me to post throughout the day more effectively. I've actually thought about giving this blog up in the last couple of months because quite honestly it started to feel like an obligation. Getting through all my reading material at one shot just wasn't practical anymore given the number of feeds I'm reading, which I do consider an essential part of what I do.

I understand that many of you liked the 'main dish' format, most likely because it was a single shot top to bottom of what I was writing about. The problem I was having with this format, in addition to the above time mgmt one, was that the archive was getting a little out of control. I can search on all the content, but with it crammed into big posts I wasn't always able to find what I was looking for. Also, as Ross pointed out, it wasn't easy to link to a single item, at least not as easily as it is when the item is in a single post.

So the criticisms of the new format seemed to get grouped into readability issues. What I have done is fool around with the typeface sizing in an effort to make it more readable. I'll keep working on this; I'm learning while flying.

Comments

Have you tried to use del.icio.us to linkroll posts of interest that you do not want to comment too much on ? You can then use FeedBurner to splice your del.icio.us selections with your main typepad feed.

I've tried del.icio.us but haven't been disciplined about it. I also don't like how the typelist is then off to one column in really small type (which I know can be modified, but it's still in a column).

Are you using it?

don't give it up....this is the best blog on the net.....and trust me, i check a lot of them....keep it up!!!!!!

agree with woody that this is the best blog on the net.

personally multiple entries that capture ALL of your reading and thoughts are way more valuable - it's like having a conversation or discussing ideas rather than having a lecture.

thanks for the comments, I appreciate the words of encouragement.
